Jeez Dave, I must say I'm quite impressed with this new project of yours. I've never seen this aspect of your arting before--you're quite eloquent and creative with illustrating your words (not to mention the fairly breakneck pace at which you manage to produce these finished pieces!)
Nothing new here, but I am quite happy with the way I'm feeling the drawings developing more to gain a more natural sense of the overall shape of the figure. Still hacking away at those paintings, update soon hopefully :>
Oh gosh, have you seen this site on old Japanese photographs? Gorgeous...

some delightful figure work! i really like the erasure rubbings you left; they give little exclamatory cues to some of the figures' faces. the piece with the larger lady has shavings swirling like she's sitting astride a cyclone...or maybe a leaf-blower.
thanks for the kind words mel! this class has been tough conceptually, but with deadline's everyday sometimes you just turn in that spaghetti thrown on the wall (...it's still sticking?! success!) i'll have to burn you some copies of the artist clips we're watching -- some even synergize art and science (and they said it could never be done)! A bit of inspiration from hearing the trials, tribulations and success of other artists.
very nice photos as well. the colorizing reminds me of my grandparents -- my grandpa had a photography business that my grandma helped with by hand-coloring the prints (you know...before they had that dang-fangled color film). a shame they weren't japanese though...
