Spreading the Love

Trying to organize house a little bit; I've been spending a fair amount of time recently in the Coroflot & Pinterest worlds.  Curious?  Swing by and give these links a click!

Hackafore's Coroflot page is filled with design projects from past & present: http://www.coroflot.com/hackafore

and I'll be darned if Pinterest hasn't been the neatest thing to come along!  Distilled research and inspiration all in one convenient location: http://pinterest.com/hackafore/

That's it for now, enjoy the long weekend!

Fresh coats of paint

In the middle of refurbishing my Senior Collection portfolio.  Updating both the flats and croquis -- trying to provide some more detail and information to the garments.  Here are the first couple looks:

Shootin photos

A friend contacted me recently about putting my senior collection in a photo shoot.  There's a new fashion magazine about to begin publishing here in SF, and they were looking for a hip military theme for the first issue.  Here are a couple of the photos:

Photos by Melvin Harper.  Shoot produced by Alexandra Thurmond.  Thanks everyone!

fashon! turn to the left! turn to the right! oooh fashion!

here are the runway photos for hackafore's debut collection at mercedes benz fashion week(c):

look 1. sokol m65 jacket. internazionale t shirt. dynamo trousers. had to hide the inter shirt under the zipped-up sokol. a little too much white for my tastes

look 2. bilibin suit jacket. ostern collared shirt. bilibin trousers. this model was christian from lousiana. got to walk out with him for curtain call. apparently he was working for burberry the week before -- good thing he got that practice before he tried on my burberry plaid raincoat suit

look 3. omega red suit jacket. bayrische tank. alexi trousers. love Love LOVE this! i've died and gone to micromesh heaven

look 4. pathfinder tank. ol' chernomor corduroy pants. wish they would've let me use the internazionale tshirt for this look, but they didn't want ANY branding

look 5. soyuz jacket. volk's short-sleeved collared shirt. bonnie & clyde board shorts -- "only time we wear burberry's to swim!"

look 6. glavkom suit jacket. kapron collared shirt. glavkom tuxedo shorts

look 7. gagarin flight jacket. orbiter polo shirt. koshchei shorts. another hidden shirt

look 8. ronehn baseball t. ivashko 3/4 pants

look 9. 1917 mackintosh coat. glasnost short-sleeved collared shirt. polaris shorts. this was my favorite model. so suave with a pinch of cool and a dash of bad ass...

update: o, btw, this model is corey baptiste. you might recognize him from dkny's latest campaign. apparently some other people like him as well ;)

thanks to women's wear daily for the photos

mercedes benz fashion week(c)

fresh from sf and ready to be altered 2" everywhere to fit 19 year old ny models!

candids! from l. to r. men's wear designer lisa nguyen, mb(c)fw alum hurst lin, and women's wear designers merry acton and dipti irla. if you're smiling, you're not hand-sewing enough!

there's a fabulous collection hidden in there somewhere

fellow designer sun young yoon, giving her best "i'm still sewing at 3 in the morning, and i don't want to smile, but someone's taking a picture of me, so here's a reeeaaaallllyyy forced smile."

only fair that i return the favor

wall o' models

take me awwwaaaaaaaaayyy to wear i'm goin'

printed an extended run of 6 hackashirts to serve as take-aways for mercedes benz fashion week(c). was quite pleased with the results, but i only had enough capital to buy small and medium sizes. how hackaforian.

black with red print version.

red with black-print version. i went and attached a business card to each shirts' sizing tag as a little bit extra. gotta make sure folks know who and how to reach me!

close-ups of the hackafornia shoulder patches

getting ready

process calender. don't worry, there are A LOT more dry erase sketches on this now. sometimes, after a day of sewing you've got to unwind with some quick caricatures of rampaging mecha-ducks or the occasional gorging panda.

meshy pattern pieces. the athletic fabric was a little soft and slippery so each piece was mounted from two layers of self fabric, with an extra layer of stabilizing organza hand sewn between. *yeesh* it took a whole day just to mount all the pieces...

no big deal, just making some shoulder pads using a herringbone stitch. the key to a good shoulder pad is if it can stand up on its own.

here it is, the omega red mesh suit! using all my guile and craft, i was able to convince my directors to let this into the show. *guh* can't wait 'til after and i can wear it!

bayrische tank all lined and reversable! o, and hai merry! she's hand-finishing some tea-dyed silk hems. no big deal.

checkmate!

it all starts here! this is the coquis sketch for my "kasparov" padded vest. now lets journey through the process of actually making it in fabric...

big pile o' pieces right after cutting. matching the checks before cutting took a full day. *yeesh*

first step of binding the cotton padding pieces together. once this is done with the overlock machine, then these can be mounted onto the self checkered fabric

making sure those top-stitching lines are nice and straight

cut and mounted pattern pieces all laid out!
