Hieros x Hackafore

With one foot out the door, I've been tackling some of the projects I had put on the back burner.  Finally getting to that black jacket I've been meaning to sew up!  My roommate Kevin, brought back some amazing printed fabric back from his trip to Japan (like, 2 years ago!) and I finally found the time and project to put it to good use!  The jacket is the J719 Satoshi Special, named in honor of Kevin of course :)

The original flat back when the jacket was named the "1849."  The new name just fits so much better!

The self is a black supplex for water/snowproofing.  Kevin got me two colorways in the fabric -- a gold, and a green.  Still have to figure out what to do with the green :/

The lining does fray a bit, so gotta overlock that seam allowance!

A clear view of the interior front pockets.  They were pretty fun to make...but then again, I love my pockets :D

Front view of the finished jacket (all incognito like)

Peek-a-boo!

Splayed lining.  Tagged according to Hieros protocol, with a little Hackafore co-branding

Pockets on pockets inside pockets!  Ready to hack forth, box-cutter and red pencil in tow

Odds and ends

Tying up some loose ends here in San Francisco!  Big moves and changes loom on the horizon, so here are some fun little frivolities in the mean time!

Oldies but goodies from my elementary school days -- gotta get those fresh ReeAirNik's of course!

Victor Copeland's Sacramento Firebirds' Home uniform set.  Luckily there's been some progression in my renders since I was 10 years old.  ...and yup, included IS a design for the latest in crotch cup technology :D

DeStijl Hoody in a blue colorway.  Trying to clear out the rolls of random fabric that have accumulated @ 440.  Included here are a poly mesh self, ripstop pocketing, stretch mesh rib and micro mesh liner.  Made in the U! S! A!

Merchandisers showing Hackafore some love @ 440.  Thanks to Megan, Krystle and Bo!

...and a couple East Asian prints for good measure!  The naughty Japanese schoolgirls are yelling out "Slackers!  Rude & Reckless!" while the Thai translates to "Immeasurable is this heart of Man."

Sehr technisch

Part of production is getting tech-packs set up.  They help illuminate all the mysteries hidden in the garment flats -- answering questions like, "Exactly how long IS the center front?" and "Where should be be placing all these awesome textile prints?!"  Welp, here's a little breakdown:

Important to begin at the beginning!  This is the basic garment flat.

Labeling those ever-important design details

Specs!  Get 'yer specs here!  Can't tell day from night without your specs!

Oooo, the colors!

Can't forget those textile swatches

Woah dude, you can't label me!

And that's that.  Obviously a couple more pages involved, but jeeze louise, can't be giving out all the secrets!

Take me out

Baseball season is in full swing!  The 440 studio is a scant 2 blocks away from San Francisco's gorgeous At&t Park...so why not make some new T-shirts?!  Here are a couple rough drafts...it's a long season so there should be some more shortly!

...more than just Angel in that outfield

Thanks to Sir David Attenborough for introducing me to the majestic giraffe neck-fight

Soccer teams don't get to have all the fun with championship stars!

...a cut & sew variation.  Off to work; let's see how the critique goes!

Batches on batches

Our box of printed Tshirts ran dry recently, so I took it upon myself to help refill it!  Trying to think of designs that would appeal to the local clientele, I went with my Aum & Atlantis prints.  The screens had already been burned and Bryce dropped off a dufflebag of blank shirts the last time he was up in the bay, so making these was pretty painless.  Woohoo!

A couple of the women's Aum shirts

Run of Atlantis shirts

Close-up of the Atlantis print.  I made these with a single paint pull of gold, but dropped a little splotch of red above the eyes to create the glowing effect.

Into the boo box with ye!  Sold the 2 gold on black Aum shirts already...off to a flying start!

El Dorado

With the 49ers' recent success (Harbowl-bound!), the 440 Studio has been asking about the possibility of making some merchandise to capitalize on the recent increase in demand.  To answer the call, I quickly mocked up the following designs.  They evoke the spirit of the teams without infringing on any copyrights...

Classic miner iconography with the crossed pick-axes

Requested by the owner of 440

Left over from last year.  The store is located in SOMA and not Haight, so these might not fly...

Debating whether these would be printed (easier) or sewn (cooler)

...and finally, it's never too early to start getting ready for baseball season!  Vamos Gigantes y Pandito tambien!

I'll keep you updated as progress is made -- over this next week!  *eap!

Umber & Ochre Ts

Working to expand my graphic design experience -- here are some of the graphic Ts I've been developing for Umber & Ochre's Spring/Summer '13 line.  Enjoy!

So...what is it you'd say you DO here?

Inquiring minds have been asking, so Dave, now that you're graduated, what exactly are you doing with yourself?!  Why, working at the 440 Brannan boutique of course!  My school chums Gerhart and Kunal started their own fashion label named Umber & Ochre (website in development) and I've come on as the third wheel.  Here are some shots of the boutique / work space, as the storefront is a converted production factory:

Cutting table and some straight-stich machines

Light table and the Mens' Wear racks

Cutting saws and Art!

Yes, that's all very nice David, but what do YOU do?!  Glad you asked!  Bit of everything, as the business is a start-up.  Some pattern drafting and cutting...

some sample sewing / production...

a little graphic design...

lending a helping hand during sales...

...every once in awhile, doing some amateur entomology!  Found this little guy in a box full of samples.

and of course, offering to grab some lunch for the crew!  This is the (hour long; yes, a legitimately full hour long) lunch line for the Korean diner HRD.  The kimchi burritos and Mongolian cheesesteak sammies are TOTALLY worth it!

Welp, that's all for now folks!  Gotta go get ready for work -- big sales planned for today!

Party Flavors!

Doing some graphic design for Hackafore's new Fall Collection!

Updated fonts and treatments inspired by Swedish DJ Avicii.

Graphic interpretation of the glorious city by the bay

Trying to find a way to reconcile the digital Avicii and this brushstroke font.  I like them both but there's a big disconnect between them...hrmmm

Playing with some slogans as well.  What makes Hackafore clothes unique?  They're cumfortable!
;P

Textile print developed from a coffee ring and rolled cigarettes

Mondrian-inspired graphic.
This layout is taken from a map of the Alamo Square section of San Fran

Plaids!  The second from the left on the top row is developed from the roof of the Mission Dolores.  The fourth is from a gift my roommate got me from his trip to Japan.  The two on the left of the second row are taken from the Sligo Tartan -- the part of Ireland my family is from.  The last two are reinterpretations of the above Mondrian design.

Finally, playing with fonts to use on the ever-in-development Hackafore website
