*insert text*

regular ink for the smoke and opaques for the skin. resembles one dick tracy i'm told. oh, and this was from paper stencil -- xacto'd newsprint. quite a chore.

etwas berlin liebe

from the asian art museum. i thought it was tebetian, but a girl at kinkos said it was hindi. maybe nepalese?

i was excited to use the computer to help with repeats. i made these screens from photos, to which the instructor suggested i instead use on hand-drawn images. ...fair enough...

quite a familiar scene it seems... done in reactive dye, then with a photo emulsed screen detailing.

another reactive dye, with bleach 'ahsplosions!

wowzers! heat transfer on a neon-yellow mesh polyester. the heat transfers only work on the synthetics

heat transfer. inspiration was aku mouths

a final heat transfer. it's a strange process -- you paint the dyes on a piece of paper, then heat-press the paper to the fabric. the dyes change color completely...typically to the brighter side

concept tart

I have to confess that I've been quite inspired by your latest BB layout installment, sir. Just made some doodles and coloring practice that sprouted from your last batch, I had fun hope you don't mind :>

Three lady alchemist goons: Pyrrha (fire and combustibles), Acra (acids, solvents), and Alloy (metals)
Each was supposed to be a different take on the sexy labcoat, but I'm still deliberating on how to put a metalloid girl in one

Another version for Pyrrha that is more "Underworld"-y

For a while I was going with the dragon seedling look that I started with in the last one, but for the lighter fare of BB I figured this was too fantasy-y

A color coded layout p1
...and another for page 2!

odds and ends

getting geared up for the 4th of july weekend! misdemeanors in the park most likely, before off to the embarcadero for frigid fireworks *~*

vehicle practice. pinzgauer from reference, motorbike not

mikey playing ping pong. this was inspired by nokia's amazing viral ad featuring a bruce lee schooling two foolios in ping-pong with a set of nunchuks. a shame it wasn't him, but oh how i want to believe! need to get this onto a shirt i think

moar turtles! and working on some logo designs for sponors of bazooka boy's formula 1 racer. caloil? i think it worked itself out, but the name sounds kinda cop-out-ish.

"hhhey booboo..." working on some textiles concepts as well.

spirit and asorted maxim girlies for hench-wench practice

from magazine reference. i'd like to get around coloring this one soonish...

put up a few cosmetic adjustments to the site (white bg to go with the hacka-banner, which has been sadly underused since the advent of the minimalist black bg)...what say you? (ps my question mark key mysteriously died recently. Every such interrogative mark i make is cut and pasted *sigh*)

just some crumbs from recent stuff
more spartoi with color process

....hmmm what to do with the wolvy bg
it feels so muddled in the background, and what to do with his other claw!

by the way...

i've been doing a fair bit of development work for a new bazooka boy story-line (see aforementioned daily sketching). but i figured i'd relegate all that to it's own bazooka blog -- it was getting pretty cluttered over here when i made the last issue.

feel free to check out the updated adventures! *crosses fingers*

here are the final two pages, inked and as you may notice, featuring some red accents. i added this through the entirety. next up adding text bubbles and finishing the credits page.

hat trick

these are going nicely along. there's a bit evidence of my battle with the brush, but i think it's not an effort waged in vain. having a bit of fun with the trippy bits...hee hee

previous "woohoo"...totally premature

first two pages inked. i went with a black tombow brush pen, which made some marvelous swoops, but it's about 3/4 out after only two pages. lame. i got 2, but i think i'll have to start filling the gutters and backgrounds in sharpie.

ps. these are raw inks -- i haven't dialed up the contrast yet in photoshop. that should remove some of those bothersome streaks

woohoo!

i think i'm going to try to find a brush-pen for the inking. maybe some sort of sharpie or something. i've got a 6-pack of microns to really wig out with, but i think the brush would make some nice contours.

pgs. 5 & 6

one more page to flesh out, then begins the long march that is inking

next two

i was trying to see if more natural light would help taking these pictures, but the graphite was reflective any way i shot it. two more pages; getting close to the wire...bryce has started the script tho!

schoolios

a little half collection made up for our first design project. pretty fun and a nice way to cool off from the comic productively. a shame, i don't think we're working with this project anymore after tomorrow's review... :* (
