mesh, mesh and little more mesh

front view of my final outfit for my construction 4 class. heavy on the whites and blues as this is in preparation for my senior thesis which is intended for the spring/summer seasons.

detail of right shirt breast. a little embroidered hacka-h and you can finally see the mesh shoulder strips

back view of shirt with shorts.

front view with mesh sport coat. went with tonal blue-on-blue piping instead of the original red. helps to tie things together a bit better.

inside view of jacket's lining pockets.

back view. racing stripe go!

"i've got backhand like john mcenroe..."

front view of "norman brookes jacket". the jacket itself is a basic suit design with piping, but the clincher is the fabrication: two layers of mesh mounted on one another to form the self fabric. they were quite slippery and temperamental to work with, but all in all, i'm pleased with the results.

back view. had to slash the collar open, as it was a little tight.

inside view of facings and linings

up close of lining and facings

go shorty

front view of "laufermann shorts." this is naturally a translation in german of "the running man."

left side of shorts.

back view of shorts. more mesh belt loops!

shorts together with refined version of the "eiffel jacket."

gralquest

hooray! another design deadline met. here's the collection i came up with for my spring 2012 line. lots of influences: jung, soccer, greeks, germans, and everything inbetween. the 10 are supposed to follow a basic hero's quest: intro, novice, mentor, departure, journey, friendship, first taste, action, success, and ending in triumph! now, off to start planning the second act...

two options too many

...was working on layouts when i came across a design dilemma.

1st layout option. the flats (the black and white technical drawings) were traced around the human form as rendered by sig. da vinci. this creates just about a perfect fit on the figure. however, it creates a fair amount of busyness in the background...

here's the second layout option. same info, but with a vectorized figure based on muse rafael nadal. the white background looks cleaner and bit more professional, if a little less interesting.

hmmm....

proving grounds

trying to make the line's branding a little easier to read. how's "grälquest" look? the main font color is navy, while i featured some options for the contrasting "g" capital. any thoughts?

here are "meisterschaft" and 2 variations on the umlaut option. always seem to have problems with those umlauts...

new school design project! this is the 1st of 3 in our design class, and is the testing ground for our eventual final thesis project.

inspiration for this project comes from carl jung's red book; both the artwork he created and the archetypal vision quest he set upon to make them.

muse for the project (and recent winner of the us open) rafael nadal

trying to decide between "hackafore auf der gralssuche (hackafore on the grail quest)" and "mesiterschaft (mastery or championship) by hackafore." both kinda sound a little too german...

just look at this mesh you've made!

new project! this was designed and constructed for my pre-collection sewing class. getting closer! the idea here was a fusion of a sportcoat/blazer with the styling of a traditional denim jacket. obviously that was complicated enough, so i decided mesh panels were a must! i LOVE the neon mesh, but sadly, used up the last of it on this sample. gotta go find some more...

mesh inserts and double pockets!

gotta keep the active male fashionably fresh

back view. not sure about the checkerboard-effect with the mesh on the under sleeves and then on the upper back...
