two more entries into the vocab list: hybridity and sexism. for the first, i went with a depiction of the warrior queen califia. the name of the state of california is thought to have derived from this mythical figure who was thought to have ruled a golden island of amazons (sounds like cali, right?). the "hybridity" is achieved through the multiple cultures the myth passed through on its way to shaping our multi-cultural state.the second is for "sexism." i was trying to find something involving males in the fashion industry and ran into this tom ford ad. a little info on ford: he started as a male model, then went on to revitalize the italian deisgn house "gucci." oh, and he's gay. which is what really sold the piece for me: here's this classic cheesecake image, but it's brought to you by a homosexual. oh the irony!
