WIP-ed

Dave! I just got your advanced b-day card in the mail, thankyoumuch :>
How was Mexico? Didja get a sweet winter tan?

Here's a couple of things I've been working on as of late...had hoped to make more progress on them over the break (spent largely in LA, passed in a microsecond, even missed seeing Bryce when I got back to SD :<) but just fussed over the figure's pose in the rider painting a little too long instead. Update with colors...

The next two are for my friend's website, she was looking for something more like the second pic, the first one was the one that I'd sent her. So I gots to work on cartoonizing, and dammit it looks like the type that she wants is done using vectors. Damn and double damn. Oh wells, I'll take a stab at it and see how that turns out..

.
Phew, here's the latest draft I made in the last few hours...

Oo oo have you ever checked out NPR's tiny desk concerts? I'm watching the Shearwater one right now and find it quite entertaining, they play some weird instruments.

hiya mel! *whew* well, it was a long, eventful break. the cruise was...intense. it turned out to be this pivotal life moment for my family where my sister and i realized we're not kids anymore (as there had been some doubt) and mayhaps...adults? getting mistaken for your sister's husband (while bunking with all 4 family members) for a week straight will mess you up a bit.

but got all my stuff moved up the sf, finally! i'm surveying my room and it seems relatively well put together, so the official invitation's out: feel free to drop by the bay and play!

speaking of which, some nice pieces you've put up there. what was the fishy one for? just fun? the progress between the b/w and the color piece is coming along nicely - hopefully you'll get a chance to finish this one! mmmmm...mel rendered shimmery scales...tasty

your work for your friend seems a bit...off for some reason. idunno if it's you switching styles to a more cartoony look or what, but it kinda reminds me of jeff campbell's shift to the cartoony (ala nick bradshaw). some of the power innate to your figure work seems lost, or maybe just softened a bit. i'm terribly excited to see what you do with it in vectors though! i haven't been using the computer since school got out, but you got me thinking about illustrator illustrating again...good thing i found the wacom!

righto! a happy new year to you! may it be filled with posts a plenty!
