Woohoo I'm back in the land 'o the living! Thesis draft has been submitted, and I'll be presenting it in two weeks. However, in the long run I'm going to be quite unemployed quite soon...
What does this spell? Well apart from finding a job, I'm hankering for something to do. A project, one might say, and perhaps even some travel on the side if the conditions and my finances align. And while I fully plan on finishing up the NYC mech pinup, I feel that some sort of story would be far more compelling to work on than re-interpreting someone else's stuff.
interested in figuring out a collab? Any ideas that you've been tossing around that I could leech off of? :>
I think that starting fresh on a brand new project would give me a lot of energy and a sense of urgency to finish it. But then again I know you're starting up with school soon (work too?) and I don't want to intrude on your school time. How's your schedule looking for the next few months-ish?

congrats on submitting your draft and good luck on the upcoming dissertation! so...will you be going with "master" or the more apropos "mistress" li?
i started thinking it might be interesting to try a series of 7 or so ancient scroll-style pieces. i was thinking of your "science island" idea, and how it might be cool to create a mythology for the characters/world -- kinda like silmarillion with lotr. the pieces could mash up all sorts of different cultural styles (in particular i was thinking greek vases and japanese ukiyo-e prints) and focus on 7 major archetypal themes (ie genesis --> ragnarok).
it might help you work out a bit more of the back-story for your fantasy world, while providing a reasonable work load with some interesting/complex themes.
as far as scheduling goes, school starts for me on sept. 4th. labor day's on the 1st, so no major holidays until thanksgiving. boo! but i haven't picked classes yet (eap! better do that!), so hopefully i'll have some long weekends in store.
...but i'll be enjoying san diego to the utmost until school! you should cruise on back and enjoy some post-grad vay-cay!
