Long time no see! Sorry for the extended absence, I guess I've been a bit ashamed to return since I haven't gotten too much done since last night on the painting. Had to hone in on getting some stuff at work done so that I could get the OK for the 'Con trip (obtained--Yay!)
Here's the newest, and the changes:
- Bartender got *another* overhaul, but I feel like the look of this character is way more believable. His shirt is begging for one of your sweet logos, btw :D
- Foreground girl: not too much changed...
- Ceiling: I think I want to make it a lot of wires since having blocky shapes makes it look less bar-y and emphasizes the machine stuff. I just want a mess of stuff up there that will not distract from the action below and be relatively easy to draw. Straight lines up there meant I needed to seem like I knew what I was doing with the perspective (ha!)
- Bar-top and walls: So the idea behind all the green stuff is that they are displays for your tab (on the bar, each bar would be like 5$) and on the walls they are supposed to be like a stereo equalizer.
- Background figures: added the female barkeeper and did another redesign of the guy at the bar that seemed less stiff than the other character. A lot of the figure work that I did was to attempt to make it more dynamic and less posed than the previous version.
- layer types: bumped up the main "ink" layer a lot by making it a gradient color burn to make the blacks stand out more. I think right now they look a bit extra-heavy though...
Areas that are gonna get extra special love:
- Drink pumps
- Shape of the splash (this one is just so boring to work on!)
- tightening up lines
- play around with layer types some more to get a good contrast like this version but soften it a bit
- Move around the ash/battery-tray a bit to see where I like it.

some nice new improvements, mel! the foreground's getting occupied nicely by the shifted ash tray and the new work on the bar table (reminds me of the microsoft "surface" tables that can keep tabs on...tabs and such). the "green stuff" looks like an amalgam (ha!) between the sine waves you mentioned, a stock market ticker and the data stream from the matrix; all pretty apt. your inclusion of more monitors (or are those track lights?) helps with this overall "plugged in" atmosphere. very nice!
one thing's sticking out a bit for me and that's the foreground girl's left arm. there's a bit of a tangent created between her forearm and the wires coming out her back (it looks like one wire starts to form her radial bone). you may want to sharpen the definition on the components (maybe some arm pistons or small bits of cowling?).
righto, i'll get to work on a shirt concept for the bartender and see if i can try my hand at that neon arrow you've got planned for the background. this is turning out sweeter and sweeter!
